　　One day, after school was over, Li Ming and Wang Ping were walking in the street when they suddenly saw an old man fall off his bicycle. One of the old man’s legs was injured and it was bleeding. Many people crowded around him. Someone suggested the old man be taken somewhere in the shade of trees. But Li Ming strongly disagreed. He had learned some knowledge about first aid before. He said that they ought to leave the old man where he was and check him. Now the old man was not breathing. Li Ming asked Wang Ping to telephone the First Aid Centre and he tried to start the old man’s breathing using the mouth-to-mouth way. Another young worker helped to stop the bleeding. Within ten minutes, the old man began to move a little and the doctors and nurses from the First Aid Centre arrived. They all said what Ling Ming did was right.

　　Given are three quite simple but rather thought-provoking drawings. As is revealed in the first one, two men were raising glasses of wine and toasting each other. In the second one, two cars ran into each other and we can imagine the drivers must be the two drinkers. In the last picture, the same two men were lying in the hospital, both with bandage on their legs.

　　Evidently, the pictures target at revealing an increasingly prevalent illegal practice: drunken driving. No one can have failed to notice the fact that a mounting number of people died or got injured in accidents resulting from drunk driving. In Hangzhou, China, for example, two innocent young people lost their lives in two accidents that happened within a very short period of time. Actually, the phenomenon has been so widespread that it has drawn nationwide concern.

　　To our relief, we can see pertinent laws and regulations have been worked out and enforced to punish those who drive after drinking. However, I believe that more can be done to prevent things from getting worse. For one thing, severer laws can be made and put into effect. For another, the sale of alcohol should be limited in restaurants.

　　Most of us feel envious of the famous and successful man. We do not understand why they are so popular and honored while we are mere simple common folks. In our misconception, we think that people are prosperous because they are especially gifted or that they are "just lucky".

　　All these have taken root in our stubborn minds, and we refuse to believe that most great men have a mind which is the same as, or perhaps even simpler and duller than that of ours.

　　Yet, their triumphs are great. Why? Because they are apt to fight difficulties with perseverance without fatigue, undergo sufferings without minding the wounds; they realize that hardships form the road that they must pass through before reaching their destination. Their endurance is more powerful than that of ours for the simple reason that they submit without complaint to each storm in life.

　　To illustrate this, a good example is the adventure of Columbus. What a miserable state he was in before the discovery of the New World. First, it is the problem of getting the ship. It was no easy job. People thought he was crazy with nothing but imagination. When finally he was given the vessel, its crew created new difficulties. It consisted of men of different nationalities and they were unruly. When halfway on the voyage in the place of nowhere, they ran out of food and water. Had Columbus fallen into despair, America might have still remained unknown today.

　　All of us wish for ti bright future and hope to master a useful career. Those who persist in remaining in idleness will never fulfil their ambitions, "No pains, no gains" is a motto with rnuch rneaning. Meditate and live by it.

　　Worst of all was that I wore a pair of smart shoes but with high heels! A few hours later I was in agony yet had no time to change them。 By the time we finished serving dinner at about 10:30 I was completely exhausted。 Nevertheless， I learnt something through my experience。

What makes me even happier is the neighbors I have, all of them simple and honest folks. I don't think I can find the like of them in a city. In general, city dwellers, except in their own small circles of acquaintances, see each other as total strangers, and it is not unusual to find people living in the same apartment house brush past each other without showing any sign of recognition, not so much as a nodding of the head. Neighbors are usually compared to our close friends and as such they should help each other if help is sought. My neighbors are all farmers, who are rich, not in material possessions, but in hospitality, and their honesty to help are legendary. For reasons quite obvious, it is important to get along well with our neighbors and avoid quarreling with them over trivialities. I am a good neighbor to my neighbors, and so are they to me. I’m glad I have such good neighborhoods and I have lunch that feel the same as I do.
