The old town of Longtan
Longtan is an old town with a history of more than 1,700 years. Many famous people were born and brought up in Longtan, like Sun Yat-sen’s secretary Wang Boshan(王勃山), Qu Qiubai’s wife Wang Jianhong(王剑虹), the revolutionary leader Zhao Shiyan(赵世炎), the former leader Liu Ren(刘仁) and the educator Zhao Juntao(赵君陶). There are many attractions here: the Former Residence of Zhao Shiyan, the Wanshou Palace(万寿宫) and Fuyin Church(福音堂); the Wang Family Courtyard(王家大院), the Wu Family Courtyard(吴家大院), and about 5 km away from the town is Liu Ren’s Former Residence.
The old town of Gongtan
The history of Gongtan is as long as that of Longtan. The Apeng River(阿蓬江) joins the Wujiang River(乌江) here. Gongtan is known for its steep cliffs. On may fifth, 2002, the international rock-climbing contest was held here. You can see many high-leg wooden houses of Tujia nationality(土家吊脚楼) here. There are very special. The famous Wujiang Gallery(乌江画廊) is near here.
The old town of Houxi
Houxi has a history of more than 1,000 years. The Youshui River goes through the town. It is considered to be the birth place of Tujia nationality. If you want to know about the culture and custom of Tujia nationality, you’d better visit Houxi. Here you can see and here many ethnic features of Tujia, such as arm-waving dance(摆手舞), Tujia plays, muye love songs(木叶情歌), work songs(劳动号子), and sacrificial ceremonies. You can also enjoy many delicious Tujia foods.
