在去往巢湖的路上，我先给大家诉说一个美丽的传说故事：我们都知道巢湖是因为形似鸟巢状而得名，但大家知道它的另一个名字“焦湖”的来历吗？据《搜神记》记载，古巢湖为州，有一年大旱，小白龙私自降雨除旱，触犯了天条，被打下凡尘，遇焦姥相救。为报焦姥救命之恩，小白龙告知天帝将陷巢湖的天机，焦姥得讯，四处奔走告知巢湖百姓，百姓因此而得救。但是焦姥母女却因告知众邻而延误了逃生的机会，被滔滔洪水吞没。后人敬仰焦姥舍己救人的高尚品德，遂将所陷之湖命名为“焦湖”，将湖中一山命名为“姥山”。
大家朝窗外看去，现在映入我们眼帘的水域就是巢湖了。其实巢湖属断陷湖泊，早在侏罗纪、白垩纪时期，巢湖一带的地层发生断陷，致使西部大别山东麓的流水再次受阻，形成了辽阔的水面。再经过千万年的地壳运动和泥沙淤积，大约在距今1.5万年前后，形成了今天的巢湖。它面积800多平方千米，有着“八百里湖天”之称，也是我国五大淡水湖之一。
巢湖风景区是国家重点风景名胜区，主要包括中庙、姥山和银屏山。现在我们下车，我们来到的就是其中风景最为集中、最具特色的中庙、姥山风景区，它是集湖、山、岛、塔、寺、庙为一体的旅游风景区。首先，我们来看看中庙，它因位于合肥和巢县之间而得名。中庙始建于汉代，距今已有2000多年的历史了。而它最辉煌的时候就是“南有九华，北有中庙”香火红极一时，在重要节日期间来此朝圣的队伍长达数十里。大家看看脚下的青石台阶就是著名的`十八沓了。只有沓过它才能来到中庙的大庙前。据传，这里原是道观，中庙最初供奉的是碧霞元君，也就是我们现在所供奉的“中庙娘娘”。到魏晋南北朝时，佛教开始盛行，道教逐渐衰落，于是原先的道观也就逐渐成了佛教寺院了。
走过中庙，大家可以看到远处的湖中有三座岛屿，而最大的那一座岛屿就是姥山了，它距中庙约3000米。虽然环岛只有四千米，但却有三山九峰，古迹众多。这其中最出名的莫过于姥山三古：古塔、古寺、古船塘了。说到古塔还有一个小故事呢：古塔始建于明末，但由于爆发农名起义而未修建完。到了清光绪年间，地方士绅游说李鸿章说：“姥山尖一尖，庐州出状元。”李鸿章听了非常高兴，下令集资修塔并起名为“文峰塔”。站在文峰塔上观光，还可观瞻姥山三古的古寺——华藏净寺呢。华藏净寺是为纪念巢湖女神焦老而修建的一座古庙。初建于晋代，清末续建文峰塔时重建此庙，易名“巢湖古庙”，又名“圣妃庙”。看了姥山二古，大家一定想知道姥山第三古的古船塘了吧。这古船塘啊就是那个由重打一二千斤层层垒放的巨石围成的港湾了。像这样的港湾岛上共有两处，大家知道这是为什么吗？因为啊这里上半年刮东南风，下半年刮西北风的缘故，所以就修建了两个船塘。它就是曾经辉煌一时的巢湖水师的战船避风港。
